BUILDING MORE THAN HOUSES . . . BUILDING HOPE

Ulster County Habitat for Humanity, an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, was founded in 1996 with the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a decent and safe place to live.  UCHFH builds simple and affordable homes in partnership with those in need. Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, we have built and rehabilitated eleven houses.  A non-denominational Christian housing ministry, Ulster County Habitat for Humanity invites people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build together in partnership.

Habitat succeeds in introducing into neighborhoods the most basic building block of any community - the homeowner.  We provide resources and guidance to our aspiring partner families, and they and their communities undergo positive change.

Volunteers provide most of the labor and individual, group and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses.  Families purchase their homes through zero interest mortgages.  Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor -"sweat equity"- into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving fund that is used to build more houses.

Children benefit, neighborhoods are changed
